Hadleigh - criminal damage and fraud |
||
|
Police are appealing for information and witnesses following an incident in Gallows Hill, Hadleigh earlier this month.
A man posing as a solar panel engineer claiming to work for British Gas contacted the victim from a withheld number and arranged a visit. The suspect attended the victim’s home the following day, Wednesday 3 December at approximately 11.45am and talked his way inside, refusing to show ID when challenged.
Once inside the garage, where the solar panel system is located, the suspect directed the victim away and then claimed the system was damaged, offering to “replace” it for £3,500. The victim became suspicious and asked him to leave, at approximately 12.10pm.
After the male suspect left, and the victim contacted British Gas, who confirmed they had no record of any appointment, suggesting this was a fraudulent approach. The victim then discovered a switch on the system appeared to have been tampered with.
